XU JINGLEI
XU JINGLEI è nata a Pechino e
ha studiato recitazione alla rinomata Beijing Film Academy.
Graduatasi nel 1997, ha ottenuto immediatamente il successo
con alcune serie televisive. Nel 1999 ha vinto il prestigioso
premio assegnato dalla Chinese Film Society Performance
Award per il suo ruolo nel film Spicy Love Soup.
I suoi film successivi includono: Dazzling, Spring
Subway (Beijing University Film Festival “Most Popular
Actress”), I Love You (Chinese Film Baihua “Best
Actress Award”), Far from Home (Golden Rooster “Best
Supporting Actress”).
Per il suo primo film, My Father and I, ha
vestito di panni: regista, sceneggiatrice, produttrice.
Il film non solo le ha permesso di vincere il Golden Rooster
come miglior regista debuttante, ma anche ha ottenuto l'attenzione
mondiale ai maggiori film festival come Toronto e Tokyo.
Letter from and Unknown Woman è il suo secondo lungometraggio
che la vede impegnata sia alla regia che alla sceneggiatura.
XU JINGLEI was born in Beijing and
trained as an actor at Beijing Film Academy. Upon graduation
in 1997, she gained instant popularity for her roles in
various TV series. In 1999, she won the prestigious Chinese
Film Society Performance Award for her first major film
role in Spicy Love Soup.
Her subsequent films include: Dazzling, Spring Subway (Beijing
University Film Festival “Most Popular Actress”),
I Love You (Chinese Film Baihua “Best Actress Award”),
Far from Home (Golden Rooster “Best Supporting Actress”).
Derek Elley of Variety describes her performance as “remarkably
textured” and “should establish her as a young
talent way beyond Mainland borders.”
She pushes her career in a different direction by writing,
directing and producing her first feature, My Father and
I. The film not only won her a Golden Rooster “Best
Directing Debut Award” in her home country, but also
received worldwide attention at major international film
festivals including Toronto and Tokyo. The work was praised
as “a small, multi-faceted gem of intimate wisdom”(Giovanna
Fulvi, Toronto Film Festival) and “its vitality and
honesty augur well for the future appeal and continued creativity
of Chinese cinema’s freshest most promising new wave”
(The Festival Daily of Toronto Film Festival).
Letter from and Unknown Woman is her second feature as a
director and screenwriter.
